Arizona Senate approves lying to women to prevent abortions

“The Arizona Senate on Tuesday approved a bill that would allow doctors to withhold information about prenatal problems if it could make the decision to have an abortion more likely.”

“But even worse, the law presumes that it is the state’s role to dictate what information a woman should have access to and what information she needs to be ‘protected’ from in accessing routine health care services.”

This lack of respect for women needs to be stopped. Whether you support pro-choice or not, how can anyone justify lying to a woman about her own body and health? What if the lying is dangerous to the mother’s health? What if the lying leads a child of severe disability to be born to a family that does not have the resources to care for him or her (sometimes the child’s entire life)? The fact that the Arizona Senate approved the bill blows my mind. Government needs to extract itself from the womb.
